and his message to MCPS staff. To: Members of the Board of Education>From: Jerry D. This memorandum is to inform you about the preliminary steps that are being taken to prepare for the possibility that the County Executive and the County Council will substantially reduce the Board’s requested Fiscal Year 2011 Operating Budget. Our normal process calls for allocations for schools to be made during the first week of March for the following school year. In making these allocations, I believe it is prudent that we plan for significant reductions in allocations because of the difficult fiscal times we are facing. If we do not make this assumption and allocate positions to schools based on the Board’s request budget, and the County Council makes substantial reductions in May 2010, we could have to eliminate hundreds of school-based positions in early June 2010 and begin the involuntary transfer process at a time when teachers and other 10-month employees would be leaving school
thing that can be believed. Of course, there are highbrow, lowbrow, and middlebrow paranoids, as there are likely to be in any political tendency. But respectable paranoid literature not only starts from certain moral commitments that can indeed be justified but also carefully and all but obsessively accumulates :evidence. The difference between this “evidence” and that commonly employed by others is that it seems less a means of entering into normal political controversy than a means of warding off the profane intrusion of the secular political world. The paranoid seems to have little expectation of actually convincing a hostile world, but he can accumulate evidence in order to protect his cherished convictions from it. Paranoid writing begins with certain broad defensible judgments. something to be said for the anti-Masons. After all, a secret society composed of influential men bound by special obligations could conceivable pose some kind of threat to the

the most powerful man in the history of the world… but one of prophetic impact as well. Chew on that one for a while. Lots of good stuff out there on the economy. has a blurb on how the banks are scamming truckloads of taxpayer money while artificially pumping up the market in the process. As usual Hudson is very astute in noting that nobody on the mainstream Left or Right has any intention except to enrich the Elites. If you’ve been reading S. Meanwhile, Mexico appears on the verge of collapse and things are so bad that some Mexican television stations are reporting the possibility of a US invasion. Don’t believe me? Well check it out for yourself. And if you are Hugo Chavez or Evo Morales, I wonder how it makes you feel to think about the US putting its weapons of war that much closer to their states. Meanwhile some folks are saying that we need to be worried about the use of the US military within the US. He thinks the economic situation is so bad that
profit on “basic” coverage. Yet even so, as my friend Dennis Clagett who lives in Switzerland has written to me, popular dissatisfaction with the country’s healthcare system is mounting due to the way that the private insurers have behaved. He gleefully applauds the firing of every teacher in a Rhode Island school for their arrogance. How dare workers, teachers especially, think they have a voice in their working conditions or salaries? How uppity of teachers to sneer at the bosses’ absolutist control of the workplace. Let’s recall that Henry Blodget was indicated for insider trading. standardized testing’s stranglehold; privatization; cuts in funding), we are witnessing a growing swell of reform in teacher unions. that the Obama administration is pushing. then be allowed to carry the Post imprint as franchisees. All of them could be licensed to operate with the Post’s brand. So, for example, the Gazette might be called “Washington Post Maryland. The Post could then sell franchises to many other small operations in its home region and beyond. Its brand would be bigger than ever but its business and employee commitments would be minimal. If one firm under-performed, there would be no need for layoffs or buyouts – just find a competitor, franchise them instead and resume operations. Under the above plan, The Washington Post newspaper would no longer be a centralized organization. It would operate more like a general contractor in the construction industry. It would have a small central staff of editors, supervisors and marketing personnel who would coordinate with a network of smaller subcontractors that produce content and receive the Post imprint. Most important of all, by maintaining revenues and cutting both
involvement in a place in which slave labor is openly used. I guess its funny in a sad sort of way that they’ll rail on corporate America for taking the Christ out of Christmas or the secular and vulgar nature of the entertainment industry, but they won’t speak out about the degradation, oppression, and outright enslavement of humanity that corporate America perpetrates upon the world (or in the case of Dubai rides the backs of those engaged in such acts). They won’t speak out because they have been co opted and bought off by corporate America. When Christianity operates in this capacity; when it serves the interests of the elites of this world, when it becomes the servant of the state; when it becomes an instrument of the rich to oppress the poor - IT HAS BECOME APOSTATE. That’s where it begins! The false doctrine that inevitably follows this condition of things - i. apostasy - is made necessary to mold the church to its new reality as a servant to the rich
Year 2011 budget on March 15, the Safety Net Coalition of Montgomery County will host a Community Forum this Wednesday, March 10, where they will urge elected officials to protect funding for critical health and human services, as demand for assistance continues to rise due to effects of the recession. The Coalition is a broad, grassroots network of more than 65 nonprofits in the county that provide assistance to its most vulnerable residents. With other local jurisdictions across the Washington-metro region also currently working on their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year, board executives of Montgomery nonprofits, service providers on the frontlines and individuals who have received assistance will provide personal testimony about why funding nonprofits remains critical, even as governments are tightening their belts for another year. In doing so, nonprofit officials and members of the community will highlight the increasing importance of safety net services as more people are
of the appointment process. The names of all applicants are published and available for public review and interviews are conducted in public. A resume of professional and civic experience should be included with letters of application. A financial statement of assets, debts, income and family property interests will be required of all applicants. Council staff will contact applicants about the details of the financial statement. Only the candidate appointed will be required to make the financial statement available to the public. a process to allow school systems to receive a waiver from the requirement that they be open for 180 days. Here’s how I think the State Board of Education should determine what counties to grant waivers to. State law sets the minimum length of the school year at 180 days or 1,080 hours (MD ANN CODE EDUC § 7-103 if you are interested in looking it up). Based on data collected last decade, only six states require a longer school year than Maryland:
