Here’s a few more ways for candidates to show momentum over the next couple months. We will never understand candidates who do not want their literature posted on this blog. Look people, when we reprint your literature, we are spreading your message for free. So just send it to us because your district residents will probably pass it along anyway. We ran almost every candidate piece in the 2009 District 4 special election. Lenett’s Big Stick image, which we reprint again below, is priceless. This is an ancient tactic but it acquires new life on blogs. comparing Nancy Navarro to Marilyn Praisner. Supporter statements have value because they may carry more credibility than a candidate’s own statements, especially when coming from prominent people. The above exchange had a side benefit of low-grade psychological warfare. If we could pick the three best supporter statements in this county, they would come from Barack Obama, Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards, in
affected by the economic downturn, with job losses impacting families and individuals of all socio-economic levels with little recovery in sight. WHEN: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 7 to 9 p. Here are the most-viewed blog posts on MPW in February 2010. Snap Your Whip, the blog post that broke the insane British Lucky Paul story, easily spanked the other posts raw last month. The fact that posts related to the Bethesda Pimping Castle accounted for four of our top ten suggests that perverted sex may have a bigger fan base than state and local politics. Cheryl Kagan, a candidate who last ran for office in 1998, beat out Sam Arora and Saqib Ali in an MPW poll that was heavily swamped by Facebook friends. We know our readers love Kagan, Ali and Arora, but we think they underestimated County Council Member Duchy Trachtenberg. last year has had Rockville insiders buzzing for weeks. and aroused the ire of at least some current trustees. of one of the union’s national targets, the Chairman of his slate. about the people who have served as Montgomery County Planning Board Chairmen in the past. The County Council will soon decide on the next occupant of that seat. We have a few thoughts on the qualifications of that person. First, we should bear in mind the true functions of the position. Many people assume that the Planning Board Chairman sets policy for growth and development in the county. That is not entirely true. The Chairman certainly has a say on the Annual Growth Policy and, as one of five Planning Board Members, votes on zoning recommendations to the council as well as site plans. But the ultimate authority on growth policy is the County Council itself. They also vote on master plans, zoning text amendments and zoning changes. Changes in the County Council, not of Planning Board Chairmen, determine shifts in development rules. The Planning Board Chairman has three critical functions. The Montgomery
opposition parties are often at violent loggerheads. While Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy with reasonably free and fair elections, opposition to government policies is often displayed through violent demonstrations and enforced strikes (>hartals>). This is irrespective of which party is in power. In recent years the major opposition parties have boycotted parliamentary sessions. Trade-unions and student wings mirror the political inclinations of the parent parties. Activities are more confrontational than positive. The party in power usually takes advantage of state resources to suppress opposition activities. Opposition to ruling government policies are often portrayed as anti-state treasonable activities and the state police machinery is used to make politically motivated arrests and repression of opposition members. Local representative government is not well developed in many rural areas, but holds great potential. The local government, or Union Parishads, hold elections

labor costs and overhead, the newspaper could be a reliable money maker again. that is supplying content to the paper. The Fiscal Times is one of the nontraditional news organizations being created to provide specialized reporting. The Post and other media outlets have begun partnering with them to bolster coverage diminished by staff reductions. But the Post is still marching into the brave new world of outsourcing with predictable consequences to come. Let’s be clear: we do not advocate the above plan. It would be a disaster for readers. Reporters would be more transient than ever. Quality would be more difficult to control in a subcontractor network than in a large office of reporters directly overseen by editors. Coverage would be even more driven by profit than it is now. The Post’s brand name will have far greater reach, but ironically, it will mean far less substantively. That idea has merit because it produces a new revenue stream that, frankly, the Post
Year 2011 budget on March 15, the Safety Net Coalition of Montgomery County will host a Community Forum this Wednesday, March 10, where they will urge elected officials to protect funding for critical health and human services, as demand for assistance continues to rise due to effects of the recession. The Coalition is a broad, grassroots network of more than 65 nonprofits in the county that provide assistance to its most vulnerable residents. With other local jurisdictions across the Washington-metro region also currently working on their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year, board executives of Montgomery nonprofits, service providers on the frontlines and individuals who have received assistance will provide personal testimony about why funding nonprofits remains critical, even as governments are tightening their belts for another year. In doing so, nonprofit officials and members of the community will highlight the increasing importance of safety net services as more people are
of the appointment process. The names of all applicants are published and available for public review and interviews are conducted in public. A resume of professional and civic experience should be included with letters of application. Only the candidate appointed will be required to make the financial statement available to the public. a process to allow school systems to receive a waiver from the requirement that they be open for 180 days. Here’s how I think the State Board of Education should determine what counties to grant waivers to. State law sets the minimum length of the school year at 180 days or 1,080 hours (MD ANN CODE EDUC § 7-103 if you are interested in looking it up). Based on data collected last decade, only six states require a longer school year than Maryland:
