team and I are committed to doing everything we can to preserve jobs and avoid layoffs, if possible. The unfortunate reality is that there will be painful cuts ahead as we work to balance the budget. As you know, staffing season is just beginning. We have made the decision to make reductions in staff allocations this spring to prepare for what we believe are inevitable cuts. If we do not make this assumption and allocate positions to schools based on the Board of Education's requested budget and the County Council makes substantial funding reductions, we could have to eliminate hundreds of school-based positions in early June. That would delay the involuntary transfer process to a time when teachers and other 10-month employees are leaving school for the summer. I don't believe that is fair to our employees and that's why we are reducing the allocations now. The most significant change in the staffing plan is the increase in class size by one student. This will result in the elimination
Pepeng hit us so hard that we had a knee jerk reaction to it, realizing that in a few minutes our lives, our loved ones, and our properties could be lost in an instant. But what we do not realize is that we have also been like the second frog. Slowly, our environment, our home, has been changing but we have been too busy, too complacent to notice it. It took us two typhoons to realize that “hell yeah, the wrath of Mother Nature can really kill us. The next time it happens, sad to say, we might not be so fortunate. The next calamity might not spare any of us, not even us who are typhoon-free here in Davao City. A scarier thought would be if it would not be a calamity but a series of unnoticeable, seemingly insignificant events that will lead to our death. The time to care and take action is now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not when the situation is very much desperate already. , a young political blogger (slash local entertainment enthusiast slash lyrics tanslator) has

Year 2011 budget on March 15, the Safety Net Coalition of Montgomery County will host a Community Forum this Wednesday, March 10, where they will urge elected officials to protect funding for critical health and human services, as demand for assistance continues to rise due to effects of the recession. The Coalition is a broad, grassroots network of more than 65 nonprofits in the county that provide assistance to its most vulnerable residents. With other local jurisdictions across the Washington-metro region also currently working on their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year, board executives of Montgomery nonprofits, service providers on the frontlines and individuals who have received assistance will provide personal testimony about why funding nonprofits remains critical, even as governments are tightening their belts for another year.
